A superb, mature Astrophytum asterias ‘Super Kabuto’ displaying the characteristic dense white flecking that has made this Japanese cultivar one of the most desirable forms of A. asterias in cultivation. This specimen has an attractive rounded body with strong, well-defined ribs and an excellent contrast between its deep green epidermis and intricate white markings.
Super Kabuto is particularly prized for its highly variable flecking, with every individual developing its own distinctive pattern. This specimen shows especially attractive spotting across the ribs, together with prominent woolly areoles and a mature central crown. It is also of flowering maturity, with developing flower buds visible at the growing point.
The plant is permanently grafted onto established Echinopsis rootstock. Echinopsis makes an excellent long-term rootstock, providing a vigorous root system that supports stronger and considerably faster growth than would normally be expected from an Astrophytum asterias growing on its own roots. The established graft also helps the scion maintain the plump, well-developed form seen in this specimen.
Already a substantial and well-established plant, this is an excellent choice for collectors seeking a mature Super Kabuto rather than a small juvenile specimen.
