Please note: Every plant is unique, so natural variations in size, shape, and colour are part of its character and may differ slightly from the images shown. As flowering is seasonal, your plant may not be in bloom when it arrives.

Astrophytum capricorne cv. Crassispinoides is a striking and highly collectable form of the Goat’s Horn Cactus, grown for its distinctive pale spination, beautifully sculpted body and impressive flowers. Mature specimens have considerable character, with long, slender spines twisting and crossing around the plant to create an intricate, almost woven appearance.

Unlike some of the naturally occurring forms of Astrophytum capricorne, Crassispinoides is a cultivated selection that was developed through careful breeding for its distinctive characteristics. Its unusual appearance has made it a sought-after plant among Astrophytum enthusiasts and specialist cactus collectors.

The spines are one of its most attractive features. They are typically pale cream, straw-yellow or almost white and can become remarkably long as the plant matures. Although dramatic in appearance, the spines are relatively fine and flexible, giving the plant a much more delicate look than forms with heavier, rigid spination. No two mature specimens develop in quite the same way, and the increasingly tangled spines give older plants plenty of individual character.

Mature plants can produce beautiful, silky yellow flowers from the crown during the warmer growing season. The bright blooms provide a wonderful contrast against the blue-green to green body and mass of pale spines. Flowering specimens are particularly impressive and demonstrate why this cultivar has remained popular with specialist growers.

This is a slow-growing cactus and plants are generally raised from seed rather than relying on offsets. Reaching a good mature size therefore takes patience, making established specimens especially desirable for collectors who want the appearance and character of an older plant without waiting many years for a young seedling to develop.

With its fascinating spination, slow-growing nature and beautiful seasonal flowers, Astrophytum capricorne cv. Crassispinoides makes an excellent specimen plant. A mature example is particularly rewarding, combining years of developed character with the wonderfully unusual appearance that makes this cultivar stand out in any serious cactus collection.
